Stadium Memorial Chairs: How to Purchase and Locate Chairs already
bought
Background. The Class of 1956 has a policy of long standing to
facilitate, through voluntary contributions, placing a stadium memorial chair
for every deceased graduate classmate. If a person already has one chair the
class does not arrange for a second one. Prior to the "Take a Seat"
Program, the class accepted memorial chair contributions in amounts less than
the price of a chair, and the money was held by the class treasurer until the
full price of a chair was in hand. Then a chair was ordered for the longest-deceased
classmate not yet having a chair. At this time, every deceased classmate has a
chair.
How to Purchase.
1. Upon news of the death of a classmate notification is sent out using the
mass email lists.
2. A classmate who would like to donate the chair for the newly-deceased may
contact the class coordinator for stadium memorial chairs, or he may contact
the Naval Academy Foundation directly. He may send a donation of $1000, or he
may use one of his chair-naming rights earned with "Take a Seat."
3. If after a short time no contributor appears, the class coordinator will
contact the company rep of the company of the deceased, to see if a
company-mate wished to be the donor. Otherwise he will contact the donor of a
"banked" seat to see if we may use it to purchase the needed seat. A
banked seat is one that is vested and has been donated for future use by the
class when the need arises.
Take a Seat Program.
Through donating to the Class of 1956 50th Reunion Gift to the
NOTE: Though we have a number of chairs
from the Take a Seat program, you can still purchase a seat for yourself or
someone else for $1000 by contacting our Ms. Wright.
Chair Locations.
The Class coordinator notifies donors and nearest of kin of seat locations when
the plate is attached to the chair. A list of seat locations for deceased
classmates appears elsewhere on the Web pag.
